The annexed Crimea could be closed to tourists if the epidemiological situation on the peninsula continues to deteriorate. This was stated by the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Republic of Crimea Sergey Aksyonov at a meeting of the operational headquarters on preventing coronavirus spread in Crimea.

"So far there are no such decisions and no such plans. But if the situation reaches a catastrophic point, we will be forced to [close Crimea for tourists]. It will be difficult, of course," he said.

Aksyonov noted that thoughts among the population on this issue differ, and the balance is quite difficult to find. However, the epidemiological situation on the peninsula is not really hopeful, as about 400 new cases of infection are registered every day.

As it was reported earlier, the latest anti-record was set on July 17, when 409 people were Covid-positive in occupied Crimea.
