Ukrainian expedition staff on the South Pole will get a copy of Tomos of the autocephaly of the unted local Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The document will be set in the chapel of Akademik Vernadsky polar station; the press office of the National Antarctic Science Center reported that.
'The chapel of the St. Prince Volodymyr was built in 2011, during the rule of the-then President Viktor Yanukovych. It was built by the Orthodox Church of Moscow Patriarchate, under his orders. Taking into account that the religious members of the antarctic expedition spiritually support the idea of the united local Ukrainian church, the decision was made to ask Epifaniy, the leader of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine to transfer the chapel under the jurisdiction of this Church', the message says.
The voting procedure to transfer the chhapel to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine will take place during the rotation of expeditions. Members of the 24th expedition will head for Akademik Vernadsky polar station on March 26.
