The Constitution Day of Ukraine is celebrated annually on June 28 and is an official state holiday. This year the current Basic Law of the Ukrainian state turns 21 years old.

The adoption of the Constitution in 1996 marked the beginning of the formation and development of Ukraine as a new democratic and independent country.

On the occasion of the Constitution Day today, solemn events will take place in which Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, people's deputies of Ukraine of the first, second and current convocations, representatives of the diplomatic corps, clergy, the public and youth will take part.

Beginning of the celebrations is scheduled for 10:00, it will start near the monument to Hetman Phylyp Orlyk.

As in previous years, folk festivities, concerts, sports and other entertainment events in the parks of Kyiv are expected.

The head of state already greeted Ukrainians and noted that the Constitution of Ukraine has unique historical roots.

"In April 1710, when absolute monarchies still dominated in the world, dozens of years remained before the American Revolutionary War and before the Great French Revolution, and our ancestors had already essentially formed a republican-democratic manifesto. The manifesto, which for many years was ahead of its time.", wrote Poroshenko on his Facebook page.
