As a result of mass fires in the Luhansk region, three people have already died, including one forester. Prosecutor General of Ukraine Iryna Venedyktova announced this on her Facebook page.
"The situation in the region is tense - more than 9,300 hectares are engulfed in flames. As of now, three people have died, one of them was a forester, three more victims have been hospitalized with carbon monoxide poisoning. Dozens of houses and public buildings have been damaged by fire,” she stated.
Venedyktova added that criminal proceedings under Part 1, 2 of Art. 270 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine ("Violation of fire safety requirements established by law") had been initiated. As of now, urgent investigative actions are underway.
The Prosecutor General noted that 146 fires of forests, grass, and bushes had been registered in the Luhansk region so far.
As we reported earlier, in connection with the strong gusty wind, which, according to the forecasts of the Ukrhydrometeorological Center, will be on October 1, there is a threat of the further spread of forest fires in the Luhansk region.
