July 18, in Russian Khabarovsk, tens of thousands of people have again rallied in support of their local governor, Sergei Furgal, who is now under arrest. Novaya Gazeta reports this information.
According to various estimates, from 10,000 to 50,000 people took part in the meeting and procession, which began at about 12:00 local time.
People chanted "Fair trial" and other slogans. The police did not intervene, and there were no reports of detainees.
Prior to that, people gathered in the most massive rally in Khabarovsk on July 11. Then, according to various estimates, from 10,000 to 40,000 people joined the protests. They support the governor and demand a fair trial for him.
Furgal was detained on July 9 and taken to Moscow. The governor was accused of organizing assassinations and murders of businessmen in the mid-2000s. The court arrested the official for two months. Furgal himself does not admit his guilt.
