The U.S. Embassy recommends Americans who arrived in Ukraine on Saturday, December 15, to avoid the crowds and protests, which could take place due to the holding of the unification assembly of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Kyiv. The mission reproted that on Facebook.

‘On Saturday, December 15, a vote regarding autocephaly for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church will take place at the St. Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv (Volodymyrska St., 24). Large crowds are expected in the area. Crowds and protests are also expected at other religious sites throughout the country,’ reads the message.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko reported that the unification assembly of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church shall take place on December 15. Besides, the Security Service of Ukraine reported that the provocations are prepared prior to the unification assembly. According to the law enforcement agency, the Russian Federation is behind these possible protests.
