Kyiv taxi drivers protest against Uber service

Nearly 50 demonstrators are currently located near Kyiv City Council

Demonstration of taxi drivers is currently taking place near Kyiv City Council. Demonstrators burn tires, informed correspondent of “112 Ukraine” TV channel.

“The demonstration started by burning tires, they are now burning in Khreshchatyk street. Taxi drivers want to attract attention of authorities to their problems. Organizers of the demonstration informed that around 2.000 taxi drivers will take part in the event. Currently there are much less people here”, - the correspondent informed.

According to the correspondent taxi drivers are driving around Khreshchatyk and honking.

Taxi drivers are concerned about the launch of Uber – the new taxi service.

Earlier Leader of the trade union of taxi drivers of Ukraine Vasyl Popyk announced a peaceful demonstration of 500 people near Kyiv City Council with the demands to regulate the work of taxi drivers. If authorities ignore the demonstration and its demands, activists promised to organize a nationa-wide demonstration.
