Swiss specialists have detected coronavirus in a domestic cat for the first time. Swiss Info reported that on December 4, referring to test results from vet lab of Zurich University. The cat was tested within a research project; it lives in the family where one of members had positive test result for Covid-19.
Other single cases of pets getting coronavirus were also observed in other countries. Almost all the infecte pets came from families where at least one of the members was sick with Covid-19.
Passing coronavirus from a human to a cat is a rare thing, but it's still possible. Testing cats for Covid-19 is not obligatory since the infected cats do not show any symptoms of the disease. However, infected people should observe personal hygiene when interacting with cats, avoiding contact with them as much as possible, cleaning their dishes frequently and not letting them sleep in their beds.
