A softball match of the Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo was almost canceled due to the message about a bear walking in the park not far from the stadium.
"It was found on the territory of Fukushima Municipal House located some 1.2 km to the northeast of the stadium. Having received the report, the policeman reached the site but the bear already disappeared", writes Sports Hochi daily.
The prefecture's police gathered the staff that provided public security in the park and started searching for the bear. They searched the entire park, playing music via speakers and fireworks to startle the animal but never found it.
According to the media reports, it was an Asian black bear. The locals claimed to have spotted them in the park several times since the beginning of this month.
Tokyo Summer Olympics, one of the key sport competitions of this year began on July 23. First events are about to take place on Friday - in archery, shooting, rowing and in the equestrian competition. On July 22, first softball and football matches were played. Another shooting event took place on that day, too.
The epidemic restrictions that nearly forced the authorities to cancel the Games are tough; foreign supporters are not allowed in arenas.
The competition will be running from July 23 till August 8.
