After a couple days of antigovernment protests the Cabinet of Kazakhstan has filed a resignation letter, and President Kasym-Jomart Tokayev accepted it.

Chaos reigns in the streets of Almaty. Dozens of cars were burned and shops smashed during the demonstrations in the city.

At the same time, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev made a statement against the background of mass protests in the country. He said that he was assuming the post of Chairman of the Security Council, which had previously been chaired by Nursultan Nazarbayev, and "intends to act tough”.
