The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine predicts an increase in the load on land border crossings in connection with the termination of flights to Belarus. The press service of the department stated citing the head of the State Tax Service Serhiy Deineko.
"Neither Belarusian airlines nor any other airlines whose departure airports are cities in Belarus are no longer able to operate. We also do not register citizens who cross the state border at air checkpoints from Ukraine to any airport in the Republic of Belarus. In fact, we understand that this complicates the lives of conscious citizens, but there is no other way out," Deineko said.
According to him, before there were about 80 flights a week from Ukraine to Belarus, mainly from Boryspil, Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa, Zaporizhia, Lviv airports with a total passenger flow of 6,000 people a week.
Last year, border guards registered about 1,9 million citizens for entry and exit at the border section shared with the Republic of Belarus.
The head of the State Border Guard Service assured that the road checkpoints will cope with the projected load, which may increase due to the closure of air traffic.
As it was reported earlier, Ukraine ceased the air traffic with Belarus at midnight, on May 26.
