Since the beginning of 2020, several regional gas supply authorities have been owing to a huge sum of money to the national operators of Ukraine's gas transportation system. This may result in the failure of the start of the heating season in Ukraine. The press office of the operator reported that on Tuesday evening.
The sum of the debt equals roughly 37.6 million U.S. dollars.
"As of today, the level of payments for negative imbalance makes 24 percent since the beginning of the year. In turn, the GTS operator lives up to its commitments before the market participants and fully paid the positive imbalances in January-March 2020", reads the message.
Local gas supply authorities that owed the most are in Luhansk, Ternopil, Kyiv, Kirovohrad, and Donetsk regions.
"Due to the lack of action of the companies in debts, the situation gets more and more critical every month, and the risks of violation of stable work of the independent GTS Operator are growing. Such a significant debt threatens the due beginning of the new heating season already in the autumn of 2020", says the message.
The GTS operator turned to the court to resolve the issue.
