“The mass funeral is taking place at St Sebastian's church in Negombo, north of Colombo, which was one of the places targeted in Sunday's blasts. Earlier, a moment of silence was observed at 08:30 (03:00GMT), reflecting the time the first of six bombs detonated,” the news agency reads.
According to the police, 40 people were detained. They might have ties with the local Muslim extremist gang suspected in several terrorist attacks. One Syrian citizen is also arrested under the same charges. 26 people are being questioned.
Explosions took place in Shri Lanka. The blasts at three churches and hotels were carried out by suicide bombers on Easter Day.
The number of deceased people in the result of the explosions in Sri Lanka increased up to 290 people.
According to the witnesses, the buildings in the surrounding area shook with the blast at St Anthony’s Shrine. The explosions occurred during the mass while people were celebrating Easter.
As we reported, seven suspects were detained and police also stated that people involved in the terrorist actions were identified and arrested.
All schools will be closed until Tuesday. The local authorities imposed the curfew and temporary ban for use of social networks to prevent the spread of the fake news.
