Spring military draft in Ukraine commenced on April 1. Press office of the General Staff of Ukraine's Armed Forces reported that on Thursday.
The draft will be running until late June. The General Staff plans to recruit 14,246 people. 6,500 of these are supposed to join the Armed Forces, 600 will go to the State Special Transport Service; 4,646 are to serve in the National Guard. 2,500 people will join the State Border Guard.
Last year, the military authorities recruited some 16,500 people.
Recently, the Ukrainian Parliament adopted the draft law No.3553 in the second reading and in general. The document allows Ukrainian military to enlist reservists without announcing draft. 256 MPs endorsed the bill, with 226 necessary to pass.
The document concerns the introduction of a new sort of service, which foresees contracts with reservists of the operative reserve during the period of the war in Donbas. will be useful for calling the non-regulars to arms in case of any border violation or another serious aggravation on the frontline in Donbas.
According to Oleksandr Zavitnevych, the leader of the Parliamentary Committee for national security, defense and intelligence, the reserve will involve a number of citizens who "previously served [in the military] and have certain combat experience".
