South Asia risks becoming the new epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic due to a surge in incidence in India and Pakistan. It is reported by Deutsche welle, citing data from the Center for Coronavirus Research at Johns Hopkins University.

On Saturday, a few days before the weakening of quarantine, 10 521 diseases were recorded in India. The total number of patients reached 246 454 people, dead - 6 946 people. Incidence statistics in India have surpassed Spain.

Cities of the second most populous country in the world are having difficulty placing new patients in hospitals. The level of testing is extremely low. A sharp increase in the number of infected people is associated with the rapid exit of the economy from quarantine. In a few days, authorities plan to allow the opening of restaurants and temples.

Meanwhile, in Pakistan on the same day, authorities recorded 97 deaths from a coronavirus. The total mortality from Covid-19 in the country is 1 935 people, with 94 000 infected. Pakistan overtook China in total infections.

Earlier, at the end of May, the World Health Organization announced that South and North America became the new epicenter of the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic.
