The "Luhansk People's Republic" (LPR) militants plan to abandon the water that Ukraine supplies to the occupied territory. Chairman of the Luhansk Regional State Administration Serhiy Gaidai stated this, as the Hromadske reported.
According to him, the militants have now reduced the volume of water they take through the Popasnyansky water canal.
"These conversations are voiced at the level of the Trilateral Contact Group, since January they may refuse altogether," Gaidai said.
He noted that as a result, the water utility will receive from $252,000 to $450,000 of losses per month.
The head of the regional state administration noted that negotiations are now underway on compensation, which the so-called ‘LPR’ must pay for the consumed water.
“We insist that they owe us almost $6,1 million, and we have documents confirming this amount. They say that they are ready to pay about $3,1 million. Perhaps we will agree to compensation for 87 million, but we will register, that we do not agree with this amount," Gaidai said.
