The Shyrokyne military operation, which lasted from February 10 to 15, 2015, remains the most successful offensive of the Ukrainian soldiers in the Donbas conflict zone over the past 4 years. Yesterday, on February 16, the celebration of the fourth anniversary of the Shyrokyne offensive operation took place in Kyiv. The event was joined by veterans of the war and patriots who wished to honor the heroes of these battles, UNIAN reports.
As part of this operation, in February 2015, the soldiers of the Azov regiment freed five settlements in the Donetsk region, changing the front line and protecting the city of Mariupol from bombardment. This offensive is an example of the resilience and professionalism of Azov’s commanders and was one of the turning points in the war in eastern Ukraine.
The commemoration of the heroes' memory began at Sofiivska Square - from there in 2014, after swearing allegiance to Ukraine our first volunteers went to war with the occupier. Now, these warriors have gathered to recall their fallen brothers and share their memories.
During the Russian aggression, 2945 Ukrainian servicemen died in the Donbas conflict zone, 948 of them died after signing the Minsk agreements. Poroshenko stated this during the Munich security conference, as Ukrinform reports. He also added that over last 24 hours one more Ukrainian serviceman died as well.
