It all began with a quarrel at a joint reservoir between residents of the two villages, which escalated into a clash with military intervention and the withdrawal of tanks to the border on April 17. The subject of the quarrel was the Main water distribution point. It is located near the source of the canals that replenish the Tortkul reservoir in Kyrgyzstan.
Kyrgyz began repairs at the water distribution point, but residents of the Tajik village of Khoja Alo protested and demanded the presence of their representatives at the repairs. There was a battle of words, as a result of which the work was stopped.
