The UN Population Fund (UNFPA) and Shakhtar Donetsk FC will sign the partnership memorandum, which stipulates their cooperation in the area of gender equality promotion. According to the UNFPA press service, the ceremony will take place on December 15.
‘The topics of violence against women and gender equality are extremely up-to-date in the modern society. Some 600 women lose their lives annually due to the domestic violence. The unfair division of responsibilities leads to 60 percent of divorces in Ukraine,’ the agency says.
Shakhtar Donetsk will become the UNFPA partners, as they stated their intentions to support gender equality and the fair division of responsibilities. The Fund and the Ukrainian team planned a joint publicity campaign, several joint events, and a charity football match.
‘Sexual and gender-based violence often increases during crises. Responding to violence against women in development and humanitarian settings is a priority for UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund. UNFPA has committed to an end to gender-based violence and harmful practices by 2030, the year when the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals are due to be achieved,’ reads the Statement by UNFPA Executive Director Dr. Natalia Kanem.
