Ukraine’s Security Service of detained a resident of Kamianske, Dnipropetrovsk region, who, distributed public calls on social media for terrorist acts on the Day of Dignity and Freedom. The man was instructed by the special services of the Russian Federation. The press center of the body reports.
The man was involved in collaboration by a representative of the Sapphire information group, created by the General Staff of Russian Armed Forces. He agreed to cooperate for ideological reasons. Russian curators instructed the provocateur to register as a pro-Ukrainian activist on social media.
On the eve of the Day of Dignity and Freedom, the attacker began to publish calls for terrorist acts in Ukrainian largest cities, in particular in Kyiv, Dnipro, Kharkiv, and Odesa.
“According to the plans of the Russian special services, the provocateur had to provoke informational background for destabilizing the socio-political situation in the country on the eve of the celebration and during it. If some real provocations or riots took place, Russian media would be ready to spread information that they were organized precisely by participants of patriotic organizations and movements. This was supposed to negatively affect Ukraine’s international image,” reads the official message.
The law enforcers opened a criminal case under the article “public calls for the commission of a terrorist act.”
The perpetrator faces up to five years behind the bars. A pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
