The message says that befire the beginning of the bathing suit season, Odesa city hall turned to the ASU, asking to re-examine the seabed in the area where the tanker sank; there could be items that may either affect the environment or do damage to tourists who come to Odesa to swim in the Black Sea.
Duting the cleaning works, the divers found and lifted a part of a broadside, a metal grid, a spool with the remainders of the cable, pieces of piping and various small metal items.
The works were conducted fast, and currently, the waters in the wreck area are safe for tourists and the local wildlife, the ASU says.
In November 2019, the Delfi tanker remained in the waters of Pivdenny port; a powerful storm thwarted the vessel to Odesa, and it sunk not far from the coast. No attempts to lift it off the sea bed turned successful until July 26, when it was put on its backbone.
