After the quarantine in Ukraine is over, the screening period of Cherkasy film will be prolonged. After that, the motion picture will become available online - officially. Tymur Yashchenko, the director, said so in his interview with Radio Liberty.
"The film collected UAH 6,000,000 in the box office, it's a great result for the war drama. Of course, the lockdown scratched the plans to participate in various festivals. We expect the restriction measures to be lifted, and the production team is ready to extend the screening period for at least two weeks. Immediately after cinema theaters, Cherkasy will be available for online viewing. We already sold the rights to several streaming platforms", Yashchenko said.
The first full-length motion picture about the modern Ukrainian Navy tells the story of minesweeper Cherkasy that resisted the occupant Russian troops in the Black Sea in spring 2014. For three weeks, Ukrainian sailors stood their ground against the prevailing Russian forces, hosting the national flag and refusing to take it off.
Among the consultants who joined the production team was Ukrainian Navy officer Yuriy Fedash, the commander of that vessel in spring 2014 who participated in these events.
