The Institute of Epidemiology of Ukraine plans to build a laboratory for research, development of vaccines and test systems. Chief sanitary doctor of Ukraine Viktor Lyashko stated this, as the Today news agency reports.
Lyashko said that even before the epidemic began, he spoke with the president of the Academy of Medical Sciences, as well as with the director of the Institute of Epidemiology, and they made the general decision to build one laboratory on the territory of the Institute of Epidemiology.
“The laboratory will work both for practical research, which is now being carried out for coronavirus disease, and for scientific research. This will allow us to combine science and practice. In the future, we will be able to develop specific diagnostic test systems or investigate the effectiveness of treatment of certain drugs. There will also be an opportunity to develop immunobiological preparations," Lyashko said.
He specified that as of today, the development of vaccines in Ukraine is not underway.
As we reported before, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky instructed all chairmen of regional state administrations to fully pay off wage arrears to doctors in the coming days.
