Over 80,000 people were tested in cooperation with BBC. The partakers passed nine types of tests using for estimation of different aspects of human conscience, spanning planning/reasoning, working memory, attention, and emotion processing abilities. As a result, the scientists spotted cognitive deteriorations that cannot be explained by the difference of respondents in age, education, or other demographic and social and economic factors.
The defects turned out to be more notable in the case of such functions of brains as reasoning, problem-solving, and planning. These results meet the description of the so-called long coronavirus when people face haze, issues with concentration, and choosing of right words.
The deteriorations were mostly expressed among people who were put on artificial lung ventilation due to the Covid-19. Hospitalized people but not put on artificial lung ventilation faced fewer cases of deterioration. People who were ill but stayed at home – have the rate closer to hospitalized people but not put on the artificial lung ventilation faced.
As we reported, Japanese pharmaceutical company Shionogi began testing a drug to treat coronavirus.
