Ukraine is getting prepared for the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic

Professor at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health and Virologist Andrew Pekosz stated whether coronavirus might be transmitted through food as Bloomberg reported.

The scientist noted that the main route of transmission of the coronavirus passes through the respiratory system.

“All data that we have now, states in fact that the main method of infection transmission is respiratory, in other words, through drops that we exhale when we talk for example. That is why facial masks and social distance can deter the spread of the coronavirus so effectively. The infection through different surfaces and food does not play same big role in the spread as it happens with other viruses,” the scientists said.

The professor gave the example of the transition of rotavirus through food products and added that in such a case, diarrhea might be among the symptoms.

On August 16, Ukrainian doctors observed 1,464 new cases of Covid-19 in the country. 92,820 cases of Covid-19 were lab-confirmed in Ukraine. 2,089 of those are lethal. 48,164 patients recovered.
