Employees of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) blocked the import of ammunition and explosives through the Rava-Ruska customs office in Lviv region. The press service of the local SBU office reported that on Facebook.
Special services operatives established that a citizen of Ukraine tried to transport the goods across the state border.
"In the customs control zone, law enforcement officers stopped the car of the attacker. When inspected in the structural cavities of the car, objects were found that looked like ammunition for rifled firearms. The products were transported with cover from customs control without relevant authorization documents and without paying customs duties and fees stipulated by applicable law," the message says.
According to operational data, the attacker smuggled weapons and ammunition along with a group of yet unidentified persons.
Currently, urgent investigative steps are being taken to identify all persons involved in illegal activities, and the issue of registering criminal proceedings under Art. 201 (smuggling, that is, moving across the customs border of Ukraine outside of customs control or with hiding from customs control of explosives, weapons or ammunition, parts of rifled firearms) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
