According to preliminary estimates, illegal logging cost the state nearly $519,000. Special services operatives also exposed the mechanism of appropriation of forest fund lands by employees of the region.
"Law enforcers detected the involvement of officials of the state-owned enterprise Khustske Forestry economy and Uzhansky National Nature Park in large-scale deforestation in the territories of the forest fund entrusted to them. As part of the criminal proceedings during inspections of sites with environmental experts, SBU officials established the facts of systematic illegal logging and damage to the environmental fund," the SBU said.
During searches at the place of residence of the persons involved in the case and in the office premises of state forestries, law enforcement officers seized material and documentary evidence of illegal activity.
Special service operatives blocked the illegal activities of employees of the local state enterprise.
“Contrary to the current legislation, the head of the enterprise agreed on the technical documentation for the revision of the borders of land plots. This led to the removal of state-owned forest fund lands with a total area of almost six hectares,” the SBU noted.
As we reported before, State Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) detained two members of the terrorist group under the leadership of Valeriy Bergman, nicknamed German, who blew up six bridges in Donbas.
