The health of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, who has been on a hunger strike in the Rustav prison for a month, is deteriorating, he has lost over 20 kilograms, Saakashvili's civil wife Elizaveta Yasko stated, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

"At this point, he has lost over 20 pounds. It is a great shame, and it is wrong, that President Saakashvili is in prison and his condition is deteriorating every day. It hurts me to look at him. The president needs to be fired," Yasko said.

She also noted that Saakashvili is holding up for now, but his hunger strike cannot last indefinitely. According to Yasko, Saakashvili must return to Ukraine, but "it depends on the Georgian authorities."

As it was reported earlier, former president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili has reported that he arrived in his motherland for the first time since 2013 on October 1. However, that same evening Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili stated that Saakashvili was arrested and had already been taken to the penitentiary. There Saakashvili went on a hunger strike.

Soon, ex-president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili was transferred to the individual cell. Saakashvili refused to interrupt his hunger strike despite the worsening of health.

The Ministry of Justice of Georgia has proposed to the Ministry of Health to create a multifunctional group of doctors to assess the health of the ex-president's prisoner.

Later it became known that the consilium of Georgian doctors recommended to hospitalize the arrested.

Mtavari TV CEO Nika Gvaramiya, who is also a lawyer for former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, said a liquidation of his client was being prepared in a prison hospital.

On October 27, Ukrainian doctor Maksym Perebyinis visited former Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili at a Georgian penitentiary. However, he was not allowed to inspect the politician.
