The Russians detained in Belarus stated that their purpose of the visit was a transit trip. They claim they were supposed to fly to Latin America. The Russian consul in Minsk Kirill Pletnev stated this, RIA Novosti reports.

On July 25, the Russians were supposed to fly from Minsk to Istanbul, and from there to a third country. The detainees "expressed complete bewilderment at the events unfolding around them."

on the night of July 29, Belarusian law enforcement officers apprehended 32 militants of a foreign private military company near Minsk.

That is why the Foreign Ministry of Belarus received instructions from President Alexander Lukashenko to invite the ambassadors of Russia and Ukraine in order to discuss the issue.

"At the meeting, the head of state set a number of tasks for elements of the national security system. The tasks include the work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on sending inquiries and invitations to ambassadors of both the Russian Federation and Ukraine in order to receive clarifications and discuss specific issues," the statement said.
