On August 30, famous Soviet and Russian singer Iosif Kobzon died in Moscow at the age of 80 as Interfax reported.

It was reported about the deterioration of the health of Kobzon on July 20 as he was hospitalized.

The singer was placed in the intensive care and put on the medical ventilator. Later he died.

Kobzon began to have the health problems in 2001. In 2004, doctors diagnosed him with cancer and then he survived the first surgery. One more surgery took place in 2009.

In 2015 Kobzon reported that he had to be operated in Italy.

Iosif Kobzon was born on September 11, 1937, in Chasiv Yar, not far from Donbas, Ukraine. He was one of the most famous Soviet singers, People’s Artist of Soviet Union (1987), winner of USSR State Prize (1984) and awarded with the numerous Soviet and Russian orders.

Apart from the entertaining activity, Kobzon taught at the Gnessin State Musical College since 1984.

In 1990, Kobzon became the MP of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union. Since 1997, he was the lawmaker of the State Duma. He occupied the post of the first deputy chairman of State Duma Committee for Culture since 2011.

It should be noted that Ukraine deprived Russian People’s Artist Kobzon of the state awards and blocked his assets. The president signed the proper order.

Also, Iosif Kobzon was deprived of the title of the honored citizen of Sloviansk, Donetsk region.

Kobzon regularly visited Donetsk and Luhansk controlled by the militants and conducted the concerts there and claimed about the support of the members of the illegal armed formations in Donbas.

Moreover, the singer was banned from the entry to Ukraine, EU countries and the U.S.
