The Russian Orthodox Church illegally annexed the Kyiv Metropoly in 1686, which made Moscow in charge of the religious procedures in Ukraine for several centuries in a row. The Ecumenical Patriarchate posted this with the reference to its own sources. 

The press office of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Kyiv Patriarchate confirmed the information on Thursday.

The Russian government tried to take hold of the Kyiv Metropoly in the 17th century. In 1686, the attempt proved successful.

The Synodus of Ecumenical Patriarchate took the anathema off Filaret, the Head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Kyiv PatriarchateOrthodoxia.info reported that, referring to its sources.

Yevstratiy Zorya, the press secretary of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Kyiv Patriarchateб confirmed this via Facebook.

The Synodus also ruled to restore the canonical status of Makariy Maletich, the head of Ukraine's Autocephalous Church.
