A collision occurred in the Sea of Okhotsk on Wednesday. The disaster took place not far from Hokkaido, Japan's northernmost prefecture; Russian vessel AMUR ran into Japanese fishing boat Daihachi Hokkoumaru, NHK reports.
Japan's Coast Guard claimed that the incident occurred 23 kilometers to the northeast from Mopmbetsu port, at about 6 a.m. local time.
The Japanese vessel weighed 9.7 tons, the Russian - 662. According to Xinhua, Daihachi Hokkoumaru turned over; five members of its crew were rescued by the Russian sailors. Three of the Japanese fishermen were unconscious, Japanese Coast Guard said. However, RIA Novosti news agency reported that they died.
