The journalists of the Swedish public TV broadcaster SVT found the hackers who blocked the computers of the users in a few countries with the help of the virus and then demanded ransom for the unblocking as DW.com reported.
The activity of the anonymous group of the hackers is supposedly coordinated from Saint-Petersburg, Russia and they sent more than 1.6 million of letters as they were from Swedish Telia Telecommunication Company and Postal Operator PostNord.
The opening of such letter and following the link in the letter leads to the blocking of the user’s computer and the hackers demand the ransom for its unblocking.
The SVT journalists and the authors of the investigation program Uppdrag gransking got the access to the database of the cyber-criminals and found the internet-sharker.
According to the reporters, the computers were infected in 31 countries, including Sweden, Australia, Poland, Spain, Italy, Turkey and India.
In most cases, the amount of the ransom is about 410-620 Euros and it should be transferred in the bitcoins.
Majority of people paid this sum due to the fact that is not too big as one of the suffered in Stockholm explained to the journalists.
The journalists made a conclusion that the hackers are connected with Russia due to the letters of the sharkers that is in Russian.
The issue in the letters is about the bank accounts, infected computers and amount of the funds they succeeded to earn in the result of the cyber-attacks.
Moreover, SVT claimed that the program used by the criminals sends the special key to the server in Russia. The IP-address of it coordinates the activity of the hackers and it is managed from Saint-Petersburg.
Earlier in June, a large-scale cyber attack hit dozens of companies and enterprises across Ukraine. The attacks began at about 11.30 a.m. Tuesday; the virus referred is spreading very fast. consequently, the list of the companies that took damage from it is now expanding.
