In the Russian Republic of Tatarstan, tragic events took place with those killed at school. 19-year-old Ilnaz Galyaviev opened fire from a shotgun at the students and teachers of school No. 175 in Kazan (the capital of Tatarstan). Nine people have died, more than 20 were injured, eight of them are in serious condition.
Chronology of events
In the morning, Ilnaz Galyaviev entered school No. 175 on Jaudat Faizi Street with a gun and started a massive shooting. At first, two attackers were reported, but the information was not confirmed.
The school was unguarded, there were two watchmen at the entrance, who pressed the panic button and tried not to let Galyaviev in.
Local newspaper "Business Online", citing a source, reported that the school was previously guarded by a private security company, but during the pandemic, the parents refused its services.
Galyaviev wounded a watchman and a security guard, TASS reports with reference to the press secretary of the President of the Republic of Tatarstan Lilia Galimova.
“He didn't have a card, so they started to interfere with him. Everything was blocked, and he opened fire, wounding the person who was guarding there. There is always a second technician next to this person, who managed to press the panic button... It saved a huge number of lives,” Galimova said.
After the signal of the panic button, the Russian Guard arrived at the scene, and the nearest street was blocked.
The speaker director told everyone to close their offices. In one class, he nevertheless entered: there, as a result, there were the most victims. According to eyewitnesses, he knocked on class doors and introduced himself as a police officer.
One of the victims was a 26-year-old English teacher Elvira Ignatieva. Galyaviev burst into the office during the lesson.
"It's a big trouble. We have lost 7 children, pupils of the 8th grade. They died here, on the third floor," Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov said.
Several children jumped out of the window, fleeing the shooting, TASS reports, citing eyewitnesses.
Thus, 9 people died: four boys and three girls (eighth graders), Elvira Ignatieva, 55-year-old primary school teacher Venera Aizatova.
18 children are in the DRKB, unfortunately, there are gunshot wounds, fractures, bruises. Two adults are in the 7th city hospital, one adult is in the RCH – they have gunshot wounds.
Idel.Realii spoke with eyewitnesses who said there were four explosions at the school. The presence of explosions can also be confirmed by footage from the school premises, published in some carts-channels. However, no one has officially announced this yet.
Less than 10 minutes have elapsed since pressing the button and holding the arrow. An assault by security forces began, schoolchildren were evacuated from the building, including through the windows.
One of the students describes what happened as follows:
“We managed to close the door, and he says: “Is it the police, are you being held hostage?” We say: “Yes, yes, they are holding us.” He says: “Now we’ll get you out,” and, like, starts pounding the door. into the corridor the police, like a real police, and he is trying to escape. He ran and started shooting, and we got in the door, and there such a bullet flew. And then they told us: "Open, this is the police", and we asked: "And you exactly the police?” one of the eyewitnesses told Mediazone.
During the arrest, the shooter said that he had mined his house; after the evacuation of the residents, no explosives were found there.
In addition, Galyaviev left a bomb at the school, which exploded and led to the partial collapse of the walls. This was reported by the ombudsman for the rights of children Anna Kuznetsova.
"An explosive device was planted by the attacker, and then it (exploded)," Kuznetsova said. In the place where the walls collapsed from the explosion, "fortunately, there were no children."
"Broken glass, traces of blood. Of course, the fact that the wiring from the explosion did not catch fire... Bare wires hang," she said.
Who is Ilnaz Galyaviev?
Ilnaz Galyaviev himself was a student of school number 175 four years ago, after which he entered the TISBI college (Tatar Institute for Business Assistance). However, he was expelled from college in April 2021 – he stopped attending classes in January, and then did not show up for several exams at all.
The college describes Galyaviev as a "quiet and non-conflict student" who treated classmates and teachers with respect.
Ilnaz started the Bog Telegram channel a few days before the attack. This morning he announced there that he was going to kill people (he called them "bio-waste") and then commit suicide. He also wrote that he appeared in this world in the guise of a man to "get rid of all of you."
In his channel, Ilnaz claimed that he "realized himself as a god" several months ago. On May 6, he began to write messages with calls to recognize him as a god, and to obey all people, that is, slaves. The young man wrote that he "hated everyone." The administration has now removed the channel. He repeated this during interrogation.
The shooter's father said that his son from the beginning of the year began to talk that he wanted to leave. Relations with him were conflicting. After he began to live separately, communication with his parents ceased.
The Hatsan Escort rifle that Ilnaz fired at school was officially registered. He received a weapon permit on April 28, and this is two weeks before the shooting at the school, said Russian State Duma deputy Alexander Khinshtein.
The psychiatrist, who issued a certificate to Galyaviev for obtaining a weapon, did not find any deviations from him. Now the psychiatrist is under interrogation, the investigators seized all the documents of Galyaviev's research from her. The shotgun was legally purchased in Yoshkar-Ola.
He also got on the video when he calmly walked along the street, holding a gun in one hand and a bag in the other. However, no one called the police about this, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tatarstan reports.
The media reported another detail - Galyavieva was allegedly diagnosed with a myoma of the brain in 2018. Whether he treated the tumor is not reported, the Food to Tatarstan Telegram channel reports.

The Investigative Committee opened a case of mass murder under Part 2 of Art. 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation after the shooting in Kazan.
Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the head of the Russian Guard to work out a new regulation on the types of weapons allowed for civilian circulation, "taking into account the type of small arms that the shooter used."
Residents of Kazan began to bring flowers and toys to the school, where the children died. The very territory of the school is still cordoned off by security forces.
