Russian Investigative Committee has opened the criminal case due to negligent homicide upon the death of people as the result of the fire on the board of gas tankers near Crimea, as the press service of South Investigation Department reported.
“The criminal case is opened upon the death of two and more persons on the vessels in the neutral waters of the Black Sea due to the negligent homicide of two and more people,” the message said.
It is noted that according to the investigation, on January 21, 2019, the burning of two trade vessels “Candy” and “Maestro” took place in 16 miles from the coast of Krasnodar Krai near the entry to Kerch Strait.
“The Head of South Investigation Department went to the site along with the investigators and forensics,” the message said.
As we reported two vessels under the flag of Tanzania were on fire near Kerch Strait. The crew of both vessels evacuated on water after the fire occurred. 17 people were on the board of “Сandy” vessel (nine citizens of Turkey and eight citizens of India), and 14 people were on the board of “Maestro” vessel (seven citizens of Turkey and seven citizens of India).
Later it was reported that the number of the victims increased up to 14 people. The preliminary reason for the explosion at one of the vessels is the violation of the safety rules during the passage of the fuel by the sailors.
