Russian media confirmed that the reportedly "kidnapped" Russian contract soldiers Maxim Odintsov and Aleksandr Barabanov crossed the administrative border with the annexed Crimea by themselves, report Ria Novosti and TASS citing the sources in the staff of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation.
At that the Black Sea Fleet state that the detention was performed at the checkpoint Dzhankoy (from the side of the occupied peninsula), but not near the Chongar (from the Ukrainian side), reports the SBU.
“Right after Maxim Odintsov and Aleksandr Barabanov left the Russian territory, the two servicemen were detained by the representatives of the SBU and transported to Mykolayivska region,” the source adds.
The informant of the Russian media states that the SBU drawn the two servicemen out from the Russian territory to the continental Ukraine with the academic certificates to detain them.
As it was reported earlier, Russian Defense Ministry accused Ukrainian special services of allegedly illegal detention of the two servicemen and carrying them out of the territory of the Crimea. The Defense Ministry of Russia called that a “gross provocation” and demanded to return them immediately. They also claim that Ukrainian side is trying to fabricate criminal cases against Maxim Odintsov and Aleksandr Barabanov for crimes against Ukraine.
The Security Service of Ukraine confirmed the fact of the detention but these are the Ukrainian diversionists who switched to the Russian Army after the annexation. Kyiv also claims that Russian servicemen crossed the border at Chongar checkpoint.
The Security Service of Ukraine is investigating the desertion and treason cases.
