How did they meet?
Harry and Markle first met each other on a blind date in July, 2016. Prince Harry said they had been introduced by a mutual friend. Markle says she didn't know about who he was before they met despite Prince Harry's fame.
"Because I’m from the States, you don’t grow up with the same understanding of the royal family. I didn’t know much about him, so the only thing that I had asked when she said that she wanted to set us up, was, 'Well, is he nice?' Cause if he wasn't kind, it just didn’t seem like it would make sense."
The two got close quickly. "We met for a drink," said Markle, "and then I think very quickly into that we said, 'Well what are we doing tomorrow? We should meet again.'"
Things moved quickly from there. The couple went on a second date and Prince Harry then invited Markle to accompany him on a trip to Africa just three or four weeks later. "I managed to persuade her to come and join me in Botswana and we camped out with each other under the stars," he said, describing the whirlwind romance. "Then we were really by ourselves, which was crucial to me to make sure that we had a chance to get to know each other."
Prince Harry said he knew Meghan Markle was the one "the very first time we met."
After months of speculation, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle finally announced their engagement on November 27, 2017. The couple was "thrilled and happy" to be engaged, and held a celebratory photo-shoot and a formal interview.
In the months before the wedding, Meghan has been introduced to the British public and also to life as a working royal, as she attends official events alongside Harry, all the while planning the wedding of the year.
Fact goes public
After four months of quiet dating, the news finally leaked on October 31, 2016 that Prince Harry was dating an American actress.
Markle later said, commenting this period: "We had a good five, six months almost with just privacy, which was amazing."
The happy couple made their first appearance in public since the announcement of their impending nuptials, posing for photographs in the Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace.
Harry confirmed his relationship with Markle in a formal statement on November 8, 2016. He pleaded the press and trolls on social media to stop the “wave of abuse and harassment" that had been directed at his girlfriend. According to Harry, he has been involved with “nightly legal battles” to stop the media from publishing defamatory stories about Markle and their relationship.
Prince William had to help as well. On November 27, 2016, Prince William released a statement to clear up rumors that he was unhappy with his brother's decision to open up about his relationship. A portion of the statement reads, “The Duke of Cambridge absolutely understands the situation concerning privacy and supports the need for Prince Harry to support those closest to him."
Around the same time, media reported that Harry had already introduced the actress to his father, Prince Charles.
Approval of the Royal family
Markle has already got the approval of Her Majesty Elizabeth II when the Queen gave her Instrument of Consent, which is her formal thumbs up for Prince Harry, 33, to take the former Suits star as his wife, on May 12. When the engagement was publicly announced Monday morning, the Queen was amongst the first to give her blessing to the happy couple, saying she was “delighted to see Harry in a loving relationship.”
Harry's father Prince Charles, will walk Meghan down aisle. Prince of Wales said he was 'pleased to be able to welcome her' to family. He will step in for the father of the bride.
About the ceremony
Markle's father, Thomas Markle, will not be attending the wedding over his health problems that appeared in a dramatic upset just two days before the wedding. He cited heart problems after it emerged he had colluded with the paparazzi for staged photographs in his hometown in Mexico.
Earlier this week, it was reported Meghan’s father staged paparazzi photographs of himself getting prepared for the royal wedding. Later he had a surgery on his heart due to the stress. And after that the couple got a fair share of critisism for not going to help him in this situation.
Meghan commented the situation saying: “Sadly my father will not be attending the wedding, I have always cared for my father and hope he can be given the space he needs to focus on his health.
Bets on the Royal Wedding
Those who want to play safe are betting on whether Prince Harry will marry wearing a uniform and the colour of the Queen’s hat.
But gamblers who wants to win big are betting on more unlikely, and slightly catastrophic, scenarios.
The possibility of Meghan not showing up at St George’s Chapel in Windsor is at 1000/1 at William Hill.
People are also betting on the chances of her car to break down on her way to the service (250/1) and on a power cut in the church (100/1).
A less pessimistic but still very unpredictable bet concerns who will sing for Harry and Meghan’s first dance.
William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams told Express.co.uk: “For a long period the odds suggested that Sir Elton was a certainty.
“But suddenly it is fairly open and my money would be on either Ed Sheeran or John Legend.”
Sir Elton John has drifted from 1/2 to 5/2 and Ed Sheeran is now the worst result for the bookies at 11/4, according to William Hill.
But the bets can be driven by many factors, including breaking news.
