The maximum speed limit in the cities drops from 60 km/h to 50 km/h from January 1, 2018. The order by the Cabinet of Ministers comes in force today.
Thus, drivers are now allowed to drive 50 km/h, the previous speed limit was 60 km/h.
“Today the speed limit in the vast majority of EU countries is 50 km/h, and 30 km/h in special areas. Thus, this law allows Ukrainian legislation to be more in line with the legislation of European Union,” reads the explanatory note to the order.
As it was reported earlier, Ukrainian government restricted the validity term for the first driver’s licenses to two years.
The changes to the current legislation were introduced by Arsen Avakov, Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, referring to a high death rate at road accidents(which is four times bigger than the death toll in the combat zone of Eastern Ukraine).
Apart from that, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine intends to agree with France on the possibility of the mutual interchange of driving license when the citizens of both countries will be able to exchange their national driving license on the license of the country they live in.
