The real number of deaths from coronavirus in the world may be several times higher than official statistics. It was reported by U.S. News & World Report.

Presenting its annual World Health Statistics report, the WHO estimated that total deaths from the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 were at least 3 million or 1.2 million more than 1.8 million figure officially reported.

"So I think safely about 6 to 8 million deaths could be an estimate on a cautionary note," Samira Asma, WHO's Assistant Director-General in its data and analytics division said.

The WHO cited the lack of reliable systems to log deaths in many countries, while in many cases people had died from Covid-19 before they had been tested for the virus.

In addition, the pandemic has led to an increase in deaths that are not directly related to coronavirus infection. For example, many patients were unable to receive medical care on time due to a lack of hospital beds.

As we reported earlier, over the past 24hrs, eight attempts by Ukrainian citizens to enter the country with fake coronavirus test results were spotted at the Latvian border. All cases were detected in the Bauska region in southern Latvia. Administrative proceedings were initiated against four citizens of Ukraine, and the rest were brought to administrative responsibility.
