Rate of transmission of Indian strain of coronavirus is 80% higher than British, - scientists

The Indian coronavirus mutation is transmitted 80% faster than the British. Professor-epidemiologist of the Imperial College London Neil Ferguson stated this, according to Deutsche Welle.

According to the scientist, it is the Indian strain that will dominate in the near future.

However, Ferguson says more data is needed to be sure of the high transmission rate of the Indian variant of coronavirus B.1.617.2.

In March, a new strain of coronavirus with the double mutation was observed in India. Last month, the situation with the spread of the disease turned critical; the worldwide records of infection rate were observed there for a week. More than 40 countries, including Ukraine, took the responsibility to help India with basic medical needs. 

The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) has presented a classification of several dozen coronavirus mutations that had been detected worldwide to date. EU scientists included British strains (B.1.1.7 and B.1.1. 7 + E484K), a South African, and Brazilian strain in the list of mutations of concern, but Britain and the WHO also included Indian strains B.617. 2 and B. 1. 617
