A large-scale rally was held at the NSC Olimpiyskiy stadium in Kyiv to support a Ukrainian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov on the 50th day of his hunger strike.
Activists gathered in the stands of the stadium. They were holding banners with a caption ‘Oleg Sentsov’ and ‘Ukraine is with you!’ The banners were highlighted by the football flares. Pictures of the political prisoners were shown on the screens.
The public association of Crimean supporters, fans of Dynamo Kyiv and BABYLON'13 organized the rally.
The first objective is to support Oleg Sentsov in his unequal fight against the Kremlin judicatory. The second objective is to draw the Ukrainian and international attention on Sentsov’s problem. BABYLON’13 will film a video, which will show the whole world that Ukrainians are looking forward to him. The rally is held at the stadium. It is slightly symbolic because the World Cup is taking place in Russia,’ Oleh Komuniar, the Vice President of the Crimean Football Association said.
Two thousand people were at the rally. Henadiy Zubko, the Vice Prime Minister, Ulana Suprun, the Acting Minister of Health, Volodymyr Omelyan, the Minister of Infrastructure, volunteers and MPs were among the participants of the rally.
The activists sang the Ukrainian anthem by the end of the event.
Today is the 51st day Oleg Sentsov’s hunger strike. He is in the Russian colony ‘Beliy Medved’ in Labytnangi city of Tyumen region. He was detained in 2014. In 2015 was sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment for terrorism. The prisoner declared indefinite hunger strike on May 14. He claims to release all Ukrainian political prisoners in the Russian Federation.
Sentsov is experiencing problems with heart and kidneys, according to Dmitry Dinze, the lawyer.
