Head of the State Film Agency of Ukraine leaves his office. Pylyp Illenko wrote the respective appeal, stating it was his own request.
"I have always treated the job as a tool to reach the goal, to restore the Ukrainian cinema. The dream came true, and my mission at the office of the head of the State Film Agency of Ukraine is over. In the coming days, I will publish the detailed report on my work", Illenko posted on Facebook.
He admitted he would not like to turn the struggle for this chair into a "thriller with the elements of a highly-staged action". According to Illenko, the industry would not benefit from this.
Besides, the official uploaded a video address. He added his further actions would be related to cinema, too.
The government will be able to appoint his successor based on the results of the open contest.
Pylyp Illenko has chaired the Agency since August 2014. According to his previous report, in 2018 alone, 35 Ukraine-made films were released; 22 of them were funded by the Agency. The summary box office of these films made almost eight million U.S. dollars - a record amount for the national cinema industry.
