Hundreds of people protested in the Italian city of Naples against tightening restrictions due to an increase in cases of coronavirus infection. This was reported by ANSA.

However, a peaceful protest from shopkeepers and restaurateurs led to clashes with police when unknown people joined the action. Protesters began throwing firecrackers at the regional government building. Militiamen used tear gas.

The demonstrators, who Italian media said numbered several hundred, headed toward the Campania region’s headquarters near the southern Italian city’s Mediterranean waterfront.

As we reported earlier, new quarantine measures have been announced in Italy because of the Covid-19 record-large daily incidence.

The government gave mayors the right to shut down public places since 9 p.m., and to ban mass gatherings. Conte ordered to suspend all sorts of amateur sports competitions and local fairs. Besides, the Cabinet considers closing gyms and swimming pools after further checks of safety protocols this week.
