The General Secretary of the International Federation of Journalists condemns the attacks on the edition

The editorial office of Strana informed the International Federation of Journalists (IFG) about the situation concerning the online newspaper and its Chief Editor Igor Guzhva as reported.

The General Secretary of IFJ Anthony Bellanger sent his official comment on July 17, in which he condemns the attacks of the government on the and its Chief Editor. The text of the comment is presented in the full extent.

'The police raid without the leave of the court for the search, threatening to the edition, detention of Igor Guzhva, the continuing intimidations and opening of the criminal proceedings to make the independent media to silence present the threat for the liberty of speech.

The journalists' investigation activity that shows the corruption should be hailed not being afraid of it and not attacking it. The reaction of the authorities presents the threat not only for but to any mass media in their right for investigations', Bellanger claimed.

Earlier, the journalists of Strana appealed to the Ambassadors of the G7 and EU with the request of protection from the government's pressure.

The Appellate Court refused the Prosecutor's Office to increase the bail for the Chief Editor of Igor Guzhva  in the last week.
