Police in Nantes detained a 39-year-old man during their investigation of the fire in the Peter and Paul Cathedral, as BFM TV reported.
The police are going to check the "inconsistencies in the schedule" of the detainee.
It is known that the detainee is a volunteer from the diocese who, the day before the fire, was responsible for closing the cathedral for the night. At the same time, the prosecutor emphasizes that "any conclusions at the moment are premature," since the examination of the site of the spread of the fire has just begun.
As we reported before, in French Nantes, the medieval cathedral of Peter and Paul was caught on fire this morning.
The fire started at about 8:30 Kyiv time. About 70 firefighters work at the scene, but it has not yet been possible to take control of the fire.
Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul is one of the largest Gothic cathedrals in France. Its height is only six meters lower than Notre Dame Cathedral.
