President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko canceled his presence in the International Exhibition Center at the final of the Eurovision Song Contest because of the events in Avdiivka, where four local residents were killed today. The press-secretary of the head of state Svyatoslav Tsegolko informed the journalists about it.
The head of the state was expected to attend the contest this evening, however Poroshenko did not appear on the territory of the International Exhibition Center.
Later on his page on Facebook Poroshenko said that he canceled the visit to the final of the song contest.
"We planned to attend the finals of the song contest together with Maryna and invited our soldiers and people with disabilities to support Ukraine together, but after shooting in Avdiivka and killing civilians, I decided to cancel my stay at the Eurovision final," said in the statement on the president's page.
Today evening the pro-Russian militants attacked the residential districts of Avdiivka, and killed four local residents.
