President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko in Washington took part in funeral farewell to Senator John McCain. This was reported in the press service of the Ukrainian president.
"Senator, we are very grateful to you. And that's why now I'm here today, bringing the thoughts and sympathy of a large 45-million nation," Poroshenko said.
He added that McCain supported Ukraine at critical moments in the history of our country.
"We all remembered him on Maidan during the Revolution of Dignity, when, at minus 26 degrees temperature, he turned to hundreds of thousands of people who stood on Maidan in order to express the words of support, absolutely necessary at that time. Saying that the whole world and the United States of America are together with Ukrainians. And when it was necessary to consolidate the world during the Munich Security Forum, he was the leader and helped us, "Poroshenko said.
"Thank you again, you are a real hero of America, and you are a real hero of Ukraine, thank you," said the President of Ukraine.
Senator John McCain died on August 25 after a long battle with cancer. He was known as a war hero, a critic of authoritarian regimes and an influential friend of Ukraine.
