Poroshenko awards Ukrainian pilot performing a blind emergency landing for bravery

Ukrainian pilot of Turkish airline Atlasglobal became the hero of the day in Turkey, saving 121 passengers

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko awarded the Order for Bravery to Ukrainian pilot Oleksandr Akopov, who earlier this week made a blind emergency landing of a damaged passenger airplane at the Istanbul Ataturk Airport. The President’s press service informed about the decision.

“The Ukrainian is  awarded with an important national award for bravery and dedication shown in the line of duty, and great professionalism,” the message says.

Oleksandr Akopov is a pilot of Turkish airline Atlasglobal, who on July 27 in extremely bad weather conditions saved lives of 121 passengers and 6 crew members, flawlessly performing an emergency landing after the airplane was damaged in a hailstorm.
