President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko awarded Myroslav Popovych, the Head of Philosophy Institute of Ukraine, with a medal of Freedom postmortem, as the President’s press service confirmed.
“To award with a medal of Freedom Myroslav Volodymyrovych Popovych, Head of Philosophy Institute of Ukraine of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in 2001-2018, the civic and political activist (postmortem),” the document says.
It is noted that Popovych is awarded “for personal accomplishments in establishing the sovereign and independence of Ukraine, consolidation of Ukrainian society and development of democracy, for the long productive academic, social, and political activity”.
Myroslav Popovych died on Feb. 11 at the age of 88. He was a Ukrainian philosopher, academic of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, honored scientist and technician, Doctor of Philosophy, professor, pedagogue, expert in culture studies, logic and methodology of science, history of the Ukrainian culture, as well as the director of Philosophy Institute of Ukraine named after Hryhory Skovoroda, head of the department of logic and methodology of Philosophy Institute.
