Pope Francis mentioned flood victims in Ukraine at the Angelus prayer on the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul. It is reported by Vatican News.

"I also urge those who were struck by severe floods in Western Ukraine to pray," the pontiff wished, speaking on Sunday, June 28, from the window of the Apostolic Palace in front of believers.

He wished that people who suffer from floods in western Ukraine would feel "Lord's comfort and fraternal help." He also requested prayer for an improvement in the fate of the peoples of the Middle East suffering from wars.

As previously reported, more than 250 settlements were affected by floods in Ukraine, as well as 7,500 houses were flooded, roads and bridges were destroyed. Ivano-Frankivsk region suffered the most losses.

The European Union has activated the Civil Protection Mechanism to meet the needs of Ukraine in overcoming the effects of floods. This was reported by the press service of the European Commission.

The EU said that Sweden has already responded to Ukraine’s request, and is ready to provide 1.2 km of flood barriers, 250 hoses, and technical experts. In addition to Swedish assistance, the European Commission will provide mapping services in the affected areas through the EU's Copernicus satellite system.

It is also noted that the 24-hour emergency response coordination center of the European Union is in constant contact with the Ukrainian authorities to monitor the situation.

In addition, the European Union is ready to send further assistance at the request of the Ukrainian authorities.
